Located in the heart of downtown Baldwin City, Kansas, this fire station blends modern required functional elements with design features complimentary to the historic urban fabric. Set back modestly from the street edge, the strong facade with brick and stucco detailing reflects the dominant characteristics of neighboring Victorian and early 20th Century buildings, while providing an apparatus parking apron and prominent public entrance tower reminiscent of a traditional fire bell tower. Cost was minimized and construction was simplified by using wood frame construction and pre-fabricated wood trusses.
