Mold Testing Services
Millions of people have allergies, and mold is a common irritant. Mold is also a known trigger of asthma. Symptoms of exposure to mold can be as simple as a stuffy nose or watery eyes, but in some cases, they can be much more serious. Certain types of mold give off toxins that can be the source of serious health issues. According to the Centers For Disease Control, some types of mold are known carcinogens.
Hernly Associates provides comprehensive mold and flood-related investigations, and our staff includes Council-certified Residential Mold Inspectors.
Mold testing in recommended for buildings with a musty smell, buildings that have had water leaks, and buildings that contain visible mold growth. Testing begins with a visual inspection of the entire building and based upon our clients’ needs, can include:
- Air testing
- Surface tape/swab testing
- Bulk testing
- Remediation design and professional monitoring
Our reports include detailed findings, and step-by-step remediation recommendations. We also work closely with analytical laboratories and mold abatement and restoration specialists to provide you with a complete solution to your mold and moisture related issues.
Asbestos Testing Services
Asbestos is known to have adverse effects on the lungs. Chronic exposure can result in a lung disease called asbestosis, which is characterized by shortness of breath and cough, and may lead to severe impairment of respiratory function. Exposure is also known to cause lung cancer and mesothelioma (a rare cancer of the thin membranes lining the abdominal cavity and surrounding internal organs), and possibly gastrointestinal cancers. EPA has classified asbestos as a Group A, known human carcinogen.
Asbestos has been used in a multitude of building materials in the past. It was used in insulation, wall and ceiling joints, fireproofing, acoustical materials, and floor tiles just to name a few, and has been found in surfacing materials such as ‘popcorn’ ceiling texture in homes built as late as 1980.
Hernly employees are EPA certified Asbestos Inspectors and can assist with asbestos identification in homes as well as large commercial buildings. We offer:
- Comprehensive Asbestos Inspections
- Real Estate Transaction Inspections with quick report turn-around
- Pre-renovation/Demolition Inspections
- Limited testing of specific areas of concern
- Remediation design and professional monitoring
Radon Testing Services
The U.S. EPA considers the possibility for radon exposure to be at its highest potential in Douglas, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, and Jefferson Counties. Houses with no barrier between the soil and the interior, such as homes with a dirt floor in the basement or crawl space, as well as structures with porous foundations like concrete block or fieldstone are especially vulnerable. Even houses with poured concrete basement floors and foundations usually have routes of entry for soil gas through ground level drainage systems, flaws in a concrete floor slab, or concrete block walls. Radon intrusion is often a concern and radon testing is recommended for most buildings and homes.
Hernly provides both residential and commercial radon testing.
Hernly also provides Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. For further information please contact us at (785) 749-5806 or email us at info@hernly.biz
